You can find all the detailed information regarding the start of the new school year with our regulations, and we are hopeful that the adjustments that we have made for our school will be an improvement for our students’ education.

We are mindful of our obligation and commitment to keep our community safe while continuing our daily regular educational activities in the best and most appropriate way.

COVID-19 and School Year 2020-2021 FAQ

 

+ What will the schedule for this year be?

All K-12 Classes will be Onsite.

+ What will be the drop-off and pick-up procedures for students?

Drop-off Procedure: • The school doors will be opened @ 7:30 AM for all students. • • Breakfast will be provided from 7:30 to 7:50 AM, students will pick up their breakfast and get escorted to their classes. • Parents will not be allowed in the building without prior appointment. • Pre-school parents will check in at the front entrance because signature is required. Pick-up Procedure: • Dismissal between 3:00 and 3:30 PM. Late stay will be in the homerooms from 3:30 to 4:00 PM. • Parents will have access to the dismissal link, so they can enter the family number. • Students will be escorted to the door, and parents will be responsible for receiving the child. • After school child care is not available.

+ Will classes be recorded?

Yes, all live sessions will be recorded. All classroom material can be found on Googleclassroom

+ Are school times still 8:00 am to 3:00 pm?

School will be from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm onsite, however classes start at 9:00 am if you arestudying remotely

+ If school is online, will students be required to wear school uniforms?

Students are not required to wear their school uniform, although we recommend that thestudent should. All clothing must still be appropriate and in accordance with our Islamic beliefs

+ What are the precautions for students that have a medical condition?

Parents of students with medical conditions and encouraged to consult with their child’s doctor for professional guidance.

+ Are there any considerations/ plans being made for providing social/emotional support for students?

Yes. The school will provide social and emotional support to students. Al-Amal has a student coordinator and a part-time counselor that can address any emotional concerns or worries a student might have.

+ If we have to close schools and transition to remote learning, will support be provided?

Yes, students will be supported in their learning by Al-Amal faculty and staff.

+ When will teachers be available to answer questions from parents?

Parents can set up a virtual meeting or call their child’s teacher from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, during their office hours.

PREPARATION FOR SCHOOL

Cleaning and Disinfecting Protocols.

  • Daily in high traffic areas.

  • Daily in commonly used work areas.

  • Daily of shared equipment.

  • Daily of door knobs and sink faucets.

  • Twice weekly of all areas in school.

  • School will buy hypo-allergenic and fragrance-free cleaning & disinfecting supplies.

  • Equip work spaces and classrooms with proper sanitation products: hands-free hand sanitizers, disinfecting spray and paper towels.

  • Restrooms are operational and stocked with supplies.

  • Restrooms cleaned and disinfected every three hours.

  • Shut-off all water fountains; Encourage students and staff to bring their own water bottle.

Health & Safety Measures

  • School Nurse hours of service will increase by one hour.

  • The school nurse will liaise with Fridley School District health office for current Covid-19 information and guidelines.

  • The nurse will be in charge of updating health portions of the Covid-19 plan.

  • The school nurse will monitor visually and by taking temperatures for any students or adults who become ill during the day.

  • A cubicle will be created in the health office for isolation if required.

Visitor Guidelines & Policies

  • Provide social distancing floor/seating markings in waiting and reception areas.

  • Locations of where students/staff congregate will be identified and marked with signage to remind students and staff to stay 6 feet apart.

  • Nonessential visitors, volunteers, and activities involving external groups or organizations will be restricted from the buildings.

  • There will be no after-school activities or meetings.

  • Arrange for remote meetings on Google Meet or Zoom whenever possible with staff, parents or outside organizations.

  • All staff, parents, students, and visitors will use only the front door and stop at the temperature check panel before coming in to the building.

PREPARATION FOR TEACHERS/STAFF

Classroom Guidelines for Social Distancing & Cleaning During Instructional Time

  • Lower Elementary Classrooms (Grades Pre-K to 2) will open onsite with smaller groupings.

  • No more than 20 students in each room. Preschool will have 1 to 7.5 ratio; other classrooms will have 1 to 10 ratio.

  • Full time EAs in each classroom to help teachers with social distancing and small group work.

  • Desks spaced 3 to 6 feet apart when feasible. Social distancing sticker placement for seats.

  • Cohort classes to minimize crossover among children and adults within the school. (This means groups of kids stay together with the same group of adults to minimize contact and avoid cross-contamination.

  • All unnecessary and extra equipment will be removed from classroom.

  • All carpets/rugs will be rolled up for the next 6 months or more.

  • Utilize outdoor spaces when possible even for teaching

  • Lunch and recess time will be staggered to accommodate small groups.

  • Breakfast & Lunch will be in rooms.

  • Discontinue self-service food or beverage distribution in the cafeteria. Meals, snacks, and beverages served at school must be individually packaged, wherever possible. Where individual packaging is not possible, food and beverages must be served directly to students.

  • Ensure the safety of children with food allergies when pre-packaged meals are used.

  • Outdoor play routines, include cleaning outdoor equipment before and after play using disinfectant spray and paper towels.

  • If teaching onsite, use masks and visors in classroom (School can provide the disposable masks. Staff has to purchase cloth coverings if desired)

  • Teachers and Staff will monitor arrival and dismissal to curtail congregating and ensure students go straight from vehicle to their classroom, and vice versa.

  • Follow Physical Distancing Plan for classrooms, common areas, offices (modified schedules and smaller groups)

  • Teachers will disinfect their rooms each day using the products designated by the school to clean their classrooms based on the guidance by office staff.

  • Use disposable gloves for cleaning & disinfecting high touch items and areas during the day.

  • Use disposable gloves for staff performing daily health checks and temperature monitoring.

  • Inform the office well in advance if cleaning supplies are running low.

PREPARATION FOR STUDENTS

Required Training for All Students

Ensuring Student Health & Wellness

  • Proper communication and information to parents to monitor their children at home.

  • Strongly encouraged not to send to school if the children exhibit any signs of illness or a fever.

  • Students join the classroom virtually on days that they are kept home.

  • Visual monitoring throughout the day for any signs of illness

  • The nurse will isolate students if anyone shows symptoms of illness.

  • Mandatory for 5th-12th grade students to wear masks

  • PreK-4th grade recommended to wear masks

  • Reminders and posters for handwashing near all bathrooms

  • No lockers during the day except only for coats, boots, etc.

  • All books, supplies, and lunches should be in classrooms in designated areas.

  • Lunchtime will be staggered for all grades. Middle & High students will eat in cafeteria with 3 Ft of space in their seating area.
